How to install an eSIM on Samsung
eSIM support varies by Galaxy model, sales market and carrier. Verify the exact device variant before starting.
Short answer
On a compatible Samsung, go to Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM, scan the QR code and select the new profile for Mobile data. Enable Data roaming on the eSIM only when the plan instructions require it.
Steps
Verify compatibility
Confirm the full model number, regional variant and that the phone is not carrier-locked.
Connect to Wi‑Fi
Use a stable connection and display the QR code on another device or prepare the manual details.
Open SIM manager
Go to Settings → Connections → SIM manager and tap Add eSIM. Labels may differ between software versions.
Download the profile
Scan the QR code or use Enter activation code/manual details when offered. Confirm the addition and wait without closing the menu.
Label and select the eSIM
Give it a name such as “Travel” and set it as Mobile data under Preferred SIMs. Keep the primary SIM for calls and messages if needed.
Connect at the destination
Turn on the profile, set Data roaming as required by the plan and allow network registration. Confirm Mobile data is still assigned to the travel eSIM.
Bought on this phone? Try direct install first
If you purchased on this Android phone, open My eSIMs in the PRIeSIM app and look for Install directly — confirm the system dialog (Download / Add eSIM) and skip the QR code entirely. The Install on Android button in the delivery email does the same when opened on the target phone.
If the button is not shown on your device, use the QR code or manual entry below — the result is identical.
One UI and device variants
The menu path can differ with One UI, language and model. If Add eSIM is absent, search inside Settings and check the official specifications for the complete model number.
Do not assume that every device sharing a marketing name has eSIM. Variants produced for different markets can have different capabilities.
How to keep your primary number
Under Preferred SIMs, leave the primary SIM for calls and SMS while assigning Mobile data to the eSIM. Turn off Data switching or Backup calling if you do not want the phone to use primary-line data.
If the primary line stays active abroad, its carrier can charge for calls, texts or roaming. Check that carrier’s fees separately.
Which Galaxy models have eSIM?
As a rule of thumb, Galaxy S20 and newer plus the foldable Z models support eSIM. Older devices such as the Galaxy S10, S10e, S10+ or Note 10 have no eSIM at all, so a travel eSIM cannot be installed on them even when One UI is up to date.
On the Galaxy A series it depends on the specific model and the market it was sold in. Individual variants of newer devices may also have shipped without eSIM. Check the full model number before buying a plan.
- Galaxy S20 and newer: usually eSIM capable
- Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip: eSIM capable
- Galaxy S10, S10e, S10+ and Note 10: no eSIM
- Galaxy A series: depends on model and market
If the phone shows No service
Verify that the line is enabled, Mobile data is assigned correctly, required roaming is on and any supplied APN is correct. Toggle Airplane Mode, restart and return network selection to automatic.
Do not delete the profile. Retrieve the order reference or ICCID privately from your account and share it with support together with the exact error.
Frequently asked questions
Why can’t I see Add eSIM?
The model or regional variant may not support it, the phone may be locked, or the menu may have another label. Check the full model number.
Can I keep the physical SIM installed?
Yes on devices that support that combination. The number of lines that can be active at once depends on the model.
Does the Galaxy S10 or S10e have eSIM?
No. The Galaxy S10 range including the S10e, and the Note 10, do not support eSIM. A travel eSIM needs a Galaxy S20 or newer, or a foldable Z model.
From which Galaxy does a travel eSIM work?
As a rule from the Galaxy S20 onwards. Also check the full model number, because market variants can differ.
