Can I keep my number and WhatsApp with an eSIM?
A data-only travel eSIM normally adds an internet line; it does not automatically replace your primary number. Dual-SIM phones let you assign different roles to each line.

How WhatsApp behaves
WhatsApp remains registered to the existing number even when internet comes through another eSIM. Changing the data line does not change the account.
If the app asks about a new number, do not choose Change Number unless you truly intend to transfer the account. A data-only eSIM does not require that action.
Assign a role to each line
Keep the primary number as the default for calls and SMS when you need codes or calls. Select the eSIM for Cellular/Mobile data. Label them clearly as “Primary” and “Travel”.
Disable data switching if the phone can automatically fall back to primary-SIM data when eSIM signal weakens. This reduces the risk of unexpected roaming data.

SMS, calls and charges
Keeping the primary line enabled does not make every use free. Your carrier can charge for incoming or outgoing calls, SMS and other roaming services.

iMessage, FaceTime and other apps
On iPhone, iMessage and FaceTime may require you to review active addresses and numbers after SIM changes. Keep the primary number enabled when needed and check Send & Receive.
Banking and other apps continue to rely on their own verification method. Make sure you can access the recovery number or email before travelling.
