Which data plan fits your trip?
  • Fixed data: a set allowance for your trip. Check both the GB and the validity period.
  • Unlimited: check the daily full-speed allowance and any reduced-speed limits on the plan.
  • Maps and messaging usually use less data than video. Downloads, video calls and hotspot sharing can use much more.

Cities, rail tunnels and the smaller islands

In Seoul, Busan and the other cities the connection is strong, including underground on the metro, so maps and your translation app work exactly where you lean on them most. High-speed trains run through long tunnels between cities and the signal drops out there, so open tickets or directions before the train pulls away.

Distances are relatively short and you move fast, but the mountains and the smaller islands are a different matter. On national park trails and on small ferry islands the connection weakens, so download the trail map and the ferry timetable before you leave the city.

Your home line in Korea

South Korea is outside the EU, so regulated European roaming does not apply and your tariff may place it in a special zone or exclude it entirely. Check with your operator before you fly, because in Korea you will lean on maps, translation and payment apps almost constantly.

With the eSIM your own number stays active for verification messages while the data comes from the package. Switch roaming data off on the main line as soon as you land, turn the eSIM on, and go one size above the small package if you expect to use camera translation and navigation every day.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does my phone need to support eSIM?

Yes. Your device must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Check the exact model and sales region before purchase.

When should I install my eSIM for South Korea?

Read the plan instructions before departure. You can install it over Wi‑Fi, while the validity start depends on the plan conditions confirmed before payment.

Can I keep my number and WhatsApp?

On most phones you can keep your primary line enabled and use the eSIM for data. Exact settings depend on your device and primary carrier.

Is the signal the same everywhere in South Korea?

No. Coverage and speed depend on the local network, location, device and network load. Review the listed networks when they are available on the plan.

Do I need a Korean number for local apps?

The eSIM gives you data, not a local Korean number. Some domestic services ask for a Korean number at sign-up, so check in advance whether the app you need requires one, because a data package cannot solve that.

Does it work on the high-speed train and the metro?

On the city metro, usually yes. On the intercity high-speed trains the signal cuts out in the long tunnels and returns by itself afterwards, which is why you should download tickets and music before departure.
